I’m now happy with my weight but I want my body to be a bit more toned. I’m not too keen on weight training, are there any other solutions to getting toned?

The Colonel says: Sally, first of all – good on you for the hard work and dedication to lose some weight!

It’s great to hear stories like this. Ultimately, if you want to be more toned, weight training is probably the most efficient solution – however I understand your reluctance. A lot of women are ‘afraid’ like you, to step into the weight room. One solution for toning up is to take up classes that incorporate both cardio and weight training to mix things up a bit- these are also great for adding a bit of fun into your work out. Try ‘Bootcamp’– a class that both burns fat and builds muscle – which is what you need to get those toned results.

Bootcamp is military style training so you’ll definitely feel the burn! It will usually begin with 20-30 minutes of intense cardio, followed by 30 minutes of body strength exercises, broken down into abs, core strength and leg work outs, so it really focuses on toning each area of the body.

It’s important if you want to get toned to ditch the mentality that an hour of pure cardio is going to get you results – it won’t. Toning your body is all about losing the fat covering your muscles with a small amount of cardio then building up some more muscle. That’s why Bootcamp is the perfect ticket to a toned bod! Don’t worry, there’s no real army officers involved and no single files, but you’ll have to discipline yourself!
