The claims made by those who are desperate for Britain to stay in the European Union become more ludicrous day by day. Goodness knows what we will be threatened with come June 23.

The latest of these ridiculous claims came from Don Burslam. In his letter, he claimed that the European Union had kept peace in Europe since it began in 1957 (WEP Letters,February 20). The plain fact of the matter is that the reason we have had peace for over 60 years is due to NATO, which has nothing to do with our membership of the European Union. The fact that the Americans had thousands of boots on the ground, coupled with our nuclear deterrent, was the fact that Europe was not plunged into more conflict in the post war period.

I for one would choose NATO over a European Common Defence Policy, as enshrined in the Maastricht Treaty, any day of the week.

He also pointed out that many countries had joined the European Union, and more want to follow like Turkey. Of course these countries want to join. They get more out of the EU than they put in.

It’s Britain that ends up paying the bill as we contribute far more than we receive from the European Union. It’s economic madness for us to stay in this strait-jacket of the EU.

I am afraid that over the next few months the British public will be subjected to more and more misinformation from the establishment as they try and frighten people into staying in the EU. Our country has a long and proud history, we need not fear life outside the European Union. It will also mean that we can control who comes in our country and not be subjected to any more interference from the European Union. I hope that people will choose hope over fear and vote to leave the European Union.

Start making some noise

As an ambassador for Target Ovarian Cancer, and having seen both my parents diagnosed with cancer, I’m passionate about the importance of shouting about the symptoms of this disease. As we gear up to Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month this March, I’m asking readers to help us “start making noise” to spread the word.

You can get involved with Target Ovarian Cancer’s fundraising efforts in loads of ways. We’re getting friends and family together for coffee mornings and afternoon teas to tickle the tastebuds. Or maybe you’d prefer to ‘dress louder’ and impress friends and colleagues by wearing something shocking – whether that’s your tackiest tie or stripiest socks.

Whatever you raise, you’ll be helping – £50 could help 200 people to learn about the symptoms of ovarian cancer. Target Ovarian Cancer is offering readers free balloons, posters and symptoms information to make your fundraising a success – call 020 7923 5474 or visit www.targetovariancancer.org.uk/startmakingnoise

Start Making Noise. Shout about the symptoms. Early diagnosis saves lives.

Bureaucrats will veto deal

Mr Cameron thinks he has a good deal. He’s in cloud cuckoo land, the bureaucrats will veto everything he has applied for, and so will EU courts, the most corrupt organisation in the world.

Get real Mr Cameron, join the Brexit and save yourself from any more embarrassment, poor man.
