Motorists are warned of disruption as work on two new pedestrian crossings in Wigan and Standish get under way
Wigan Council has warned motorists to expect traffic disruption as the installation of two different sets of pedestrian crossings gets under way next week.
On Monday February 16, work on improvements to the junction of Greenough Street and Central Park Way, close to the Tesco Extra superstore near Wigan town centre, begins.
Led by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), the scheme will provide push button crossing points aimed at improving pedestrian safety.
The project is expected to take between six to eight weeks, the local authority saying it will “do all it can to minimise traffic delays.”

Another TfGM scheme, starting on the same day and this time expected to take two weeks to complete, will be the installation of a puffin crossing with push button pedestrian crossing points on Almond Brook Road, near to Almond Green Avenue in Standish
This will replace the existing pedestrian refuge island with the aim of both improving accessibility and pedestrian safety.
