Joining Jack has announced its fifth annual Wigan Bike Ride will return on Saturday, July 10 - and registration is now open.

It will be the first “live” sporting event held by the charity since the Wigan 10k in September 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic, with this year's 10k race scheduled for Sunday, September 5.

A Wigan Bike Ride spokesman said: “After the heartbreak of missing out on last year’s fourth event, and only being able to stage the event virtually, we are so excited to be back and we hope you can join us in supporting our awesome organising charity Joining Jack.

“There are just 80 days to go to the big day and we would love all our awesome riders to join Jack on the big day for our Around Wigan Ride in 80 days!

“We were incredibly touched by the response to our Virtual Wigan Bike Ride last year, with riders from all over the world taking part, and raising a fabulous £10,000 for Team JJ. They received their all-important bling and virtual ride tees in the post, posting pics across social media, but there’s nothing like the Wigan Bike Ride.”

The annual event sees people get in the saddle for the cycling challenge, which raises money for Joining Jack’s research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

The charity was set up by former Wigan Warriors star Andy Johnson and his wife Alex after their son Jack was diagnosed with the muscle-wasting condition.

Registration for the Wigan Bike Ride is now open and there is an early bird offer for the first 50 riders to sign up, with entry costing £18 instead of £22.

Cyclists who deferred their place in the cancelled 2020 ride will receive confirmation of their spot once the early bird offer is full, while those who had signed up and took part in the virtual event instead will be sent a 50 per cent discount code at the same time.

This year’s ride will once again feature a special Team JJ bike ride jersey, with the design to be unveiled soon.
