Last year, Joining Jack held the ride as a virtual event due to the coronavirus pandemic.

While the actual event is returning this year, organisers are also giving people the chance to cover the distance in their own time instead.

“This option is at the slightly reduced registration fee of £20 and is open to all ages and all abilities and riders all over the world.

“You can complete your 50 miles in one ride on our official route (to be revealed soon) or a 50 mile route/routes of your choice - the 50 miles can be completed across a number of rides.”

Participants must submit evidence of their ride by Saturday, July 10, the day the Wigan Bike Ride is being held.

The event raises money for Joining Jack, which funds research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy, inspired by its namesake Jack Johnson.
