The cafe said on Facebook: "It comes with heartfelt regret that as from today Monday, March 16, Brucciani Wigan has ceased trading.

"Being up against increasing costs, decline in footfall into the town centre and the Galleries shopping centre, and the closure of other major retailers have all obviously been a massive contribution to this very hard decision.

Cafe bosses went on to thank staff and customers.

They added: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our amazing customers, who have been wonderful in supporting us and staying loyal over the last twenty seven years, you won’t ever be forgotten as a lot of you have become friends to us in this family run business.

"Finally we thank all our wonderful staff members for your hard work, loyalty and support to us over the years, Brucciani has had the best team any business could ever wish for. End of a magnificent era."
