Police have put an end to rumours that a shopkeeper was stabbed during a robbery in Wigan earlier this week.

Reports had been rife on social media that the owner of a shop in Walthew Lane, Platt Bridge, was stabbed on Wednesday, October 17, following a row over a pack of cigarettes.

A heavy police presence was also reported to have been seen in the area.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police have today confirmed that they were called to reports that a man had been stabbed at around 7pm.

But on arrival, they discovered the victim only had a "minor cut" to the side of his head, and that he was not taken to hospital for treatment.

Unknown offenders had entered the shop and fled with money following what was described as "a short scuffle."
