Volunteers are wanted to help keep the doors of a village library open for longer.

Aspull Library is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and has gone from strength to strength over the years.

It has recently received funding for new books and equipment from ward councillors Ron Conway, Laura Flynn and Chris Ready, who described the volunteers there as “just tremendous”.

But more help is needed so the opening hours at the Oakfield Crescent centre can be extended and more people can access the facilities.

Currently it opens for just a few hours on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays and is closed on the remaining days.

Coun Ready said: “If you can spare some time to help out in the library or want to do a bit of gardening, you can volunteer to do as little or as much as you like.”
