Peter Austin, of Thomas Street, Hindley Green, admitted at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court to sending obscene and offensive messages to his ex-partner, in an argument over the supervision of their two children.

The 45-year-old had sent text messages and made a “grossly indecent” phone call to the mother of his daughter and step-daughter in a fit of rage after finding out that she had asked another family member - instead of him - to look after the children so she could go on a night out.

He was handed a 12-month restraining order against his victim and her two children, 15 days’ rehabilitation and an eight-week curfew between 7pm and 4.30am. He was also ordered to pay £245 in costs and compensation.

Austin, who has no previous convictions, “fully accepted” his crimes.
