Road re-opened after smash

A ROAD on a major route has now re-opened after a three-car-pile-up.

The westbound carriageway of the A580 East Lancashire Road, Haydock Island, is now open, but queues were still expected.

It was closed from 2.10pm on Thursday as engineers from the Highways Agency moved three vehicles.

A woman had to be cut free from her Nissan after the vehicle landed on its roof after colliding with two other cars - a Volkswagen and Fiat.

She was taken to Whiston Hospital but her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
