Shot fired at house in targeted attack

Police have beefed up their presence in Haydock after a shot was fired at a house during a targeted attack.

Officers were alerted after neighbours heard a loud bang at around 10pm on Sunday (January 24).

When police arrived at the house on Wycliffe Road they found damage to the front door consistent with a shotgun discharge.

The property has been sealed off while a forensic examination of the scene takes place.

No one was injured during the incident.

House-to-house enquiries are now underway.

Det Insp Simon Vaughan, from the Matrix Serious Organised Crime team, said: “High visibility patrols have been stepped up in the area to reassure the local community and a thorough investigation is underway.

“Our enquiries are clearly at a very early stage, although it does appear that this was a targeted incident.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around this time, to call us so we can find those responsible and put them before the courts.
