Well-known sofa company with a Wigan branch confirms 45 jobs are at risk

DFS Furniture plc has announced proposed changes that could see 45 jobs lost in the upholstery repairs team, with the company working to support colleagues through the transition and explore redeployment opportunities within the broader group.

Changes have been proposed within the Sofology group (DFS Furniture plc) which could see the loss of 45 jobs across the company, some of them possibly in Wigan.

The possible changes are within the upholstery repairs team and affect the DFS and Sofology group.

The proposal was announced on September 30, and the process is expected to conclude in two to three months.

DFS Furniture plc has released a statement which says: “For over 55 years, our focus has always been on taking care of our customers and designing, making, selling and delivering quality furniture into homes across the UK and Ireland. To build on this foundation and improve our overall service, we have been working to align our Group support operations across our two retail brands.

“As part of this effort, we are proposing to bring our DFS and Sofology upholstery repairs teams together into a single, unified team. By combining our expertise and simplifying how we work, we believe we will be able to support our customers faster and more effectively.

“Regrettably, this change directly impacts our colleagues, with approx 45 roles potentially put at risk. Supporting our people through this transition is our primary focus, and we are working closely with everyone affected to explore redeployment opportunities within the broader Group wherever possible.

“We don’t expect any impact on customer service while these changes are implemented.”

Sofology employs over 1,000 colleagues total across its UK operations, which includes its main support office and depot in Golborne and its nationwide network of more than 50 stores.

The exact figure of how many jobs could be affected at the Golborne branch is not known.
