St Edmund Arrowsmith high school, in Ashton, said it will not open on Friday (January 8) after learning of a weather forecast of snow and ice.

In a letter to parents and carers, headteacher Mark Dumican, said the forecast has predicted it will snow all night and tomorrow morning. He said there is a Met Office yellow warning in place for ice and snow.

The letter added: "Please check the school website over the weekend regarding opening on Monday, January 11, however be assured that every attempt will be made to do so.

"Staff will email work to their classes tomorrow morning and live lessons via Teams will resume on Monday.

"I am sorry for the inconvenience this may cause to parents of key worker and vulnerable pupils, but I hope that the whole parent body will appreciate knowing this now, rather than early tomorrow morning when arrangements would be much more difficult to make."
