A rescue team from Atherton fire station were called to Atherton Road in Hindley this morning, March 8, to reports of a cat stuck in a tree.

The animal had reportedly been stuck for several hours after being clipped by a car and running up the trunk to safety.

Fire crews had to close down the road so that they could use a hydraulic platform to reach the cat.

A crew manager from Atherton said: "It's not very common!

"The cat had been clipped by a car and ran up the tree. It had stayed up there all night. We tried with a ladder but couldn't reach it, so we got the hyrdaulic platform out and closed the road down while we got it."

The cat was safely rescued and taken away by an RSPCA officer.
