A Wigan man and his family have been transforming an old vape shop into a new cafe and wine bar with an Airbnb space above.

Jonti Richardson-Jones, 23, has transformed the building on Mesnes Street which was previously home to a vape shop and a dental practice.

The cafe and wine bar will be called Romey’s after Jonti’s 18-year-old sister.

Jonti said: “My dad just always said that if he opens a bar it will be called Romey’s. I think it should be called Jonti’s but he thinks Romey’s sounds better!”

In the bar, there will be a variety of drinks available such as the Japanese beer Kirin Ichiban, Victoria Malaga and Guinness on draft.

There will also be DJs and live singers to create a chilled atmosphere.

In the daytime, the cafe will serve coffee, matcha, iced drinks and snack foods such as cheeseboards and nachos.

Jonti said: “We want it to be open each night, but we think we’ll just open Thursday to Sunday at first and see how busy we get and gradually expand.”

He hopes that Romey’s will be ready to open in October this year.

Additionally, the family have converted an old dentist practice in the space that sits above the cafe into an Airbnb which has been open for just over a year and proven to be extremely popular.

Jonti said: “It’s really busy. I’m shocked at how many people want to stay in Wigan.”

Pictures show the major renovation that took place to transform the space to make it The Loft at One Airbnb that it is now.
