Kylie Jones, 39, will be walking from Wigan town centre to Newton-le-Willows, via Ashton, on Saturday as she aims to raise as much money as possible for Reverse Rett, a charity supporting and researching Rett syndrome, a condition affecting her 14-year-old daughter Isla.

And she will be dressed as Mr Tumble, in a costume inspired by her daughter.

Rett syndrome is a rare, genetic neurodevelopmental disorder that affects brain development. It leads to severe cognitive, motor, and physical disability, occurring almost exclusively in females (about 1 in 10,000 live births).

Kylie said: “I organise several fund-raising events for Reverse Rett each year, which in the past have included tombola, raffles, a bungee jump, a 100km Lake District Ultra Challenge and in April 2027, I have organised an event to walk Hadrian’s Wall in five days, which is around 84 miles.

“On a personal level, Reverse Rett have shown me that you don’t need to be alone when caring for a severely disabled child.

“Even if no cure for Rett Syndrome is found in Isla’s lifetime, I am committed to eventually finding a cure for families who will benefit further down the line.”

Kylie started her challenge by walking from Liverpool to St Helens on Sunday.

Her next walk will be from Wigan town centre to Newton-le-Willows on Saturday, before she finishes by walking from Warrington to Newton-le-Willows on Saturday, November 21.

Kylie said: “The idea behind the event is to collect as much physical cash as possible to take advantage of a matched funding campaign on December 1, hosted by The Big Give Christmas.

“Isla’s favourite character is Mr Tumble, which I have tried to reflect in my costume. You definitely won’t miss me on the day if you drive past me!

“If you aren’t able to donate cash on the day, I will also be carrying a card machine. If you aren’t able to donate, please give me a beep in support as you pass or visit the Reverse Rett website to learn more about Rett syndrome.”
