Amy Fairhurst, of Bridgewater Street, Hindley, had been standing trial at Liverpool Crown Court facing an allegation of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child and two counts of sexual assault against a boy.

But after hearing several days’ evidence, a judge on Monday morning instructed the jury of six men and six women to find the 20-year-old not guilty of all the charges against her.

After the formalities of the jury’s verdicts were completed the mother of one, who had denied involvement in any offences, was told that she was free to go, the case was closed and she was discharged from the dock.

Her partner Wayne Kelly, however, remains on trial for a string of serious sex offences against three schoolboys in their early teens.

The presentation of evidence in the case of the 38-year-old, of Lower St Stephen Street, Gidlow, is expected to draw to a conclusion later this week.

He denies four charges of rape, three of sexual activity with a child, three of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, two of sexual assault and two of supplying cannabis.
