Workshops to help communities access funding

A series of workshops are being held across Wigan borough to support community groups who want to bid for funding to improve their area.

Locality, a national network of ambitious and enterprising community-led organisations, is working alongside Wigan Council to help groups bid for the council’s Deal for Communities Investment Fund.

There is £1m available in the fund and there are pre-application workshop sessions in the borough to help groups who want to bid for funding.

The sessions will give groups background information about the fund and provide support and guidance with the bidding process. It will also help groups think about their objectives, proposals, budgets and will clarify the process and application steps.

There will also be officers from Wigan Council available to provide information and to answer any questions.

Anton Schultz, development manager for membership organisation Locality, said “We are delighted to be working with Wigan Council helping communities and local organisations develop their plans for sustainable local services.

“These briefing sessions will provide practical tips and tools for organisations considering applying, helping them to think through the planning of sustainable community projects.”

Councillor Chris Ready, cabinet member for communities, said: “No matter how big or small and idea, we want groups to know there is money out there and we want to help them access it.”

There are still places on a workshop session taking place on: Monday October 5, 6pm, Cadence Café, Tyldesley Top Chapel (Registration and refreshments from 5.30pm)
