As a Church of England School, we aim to provide an education for life, enabling all members of our school community to flourish and live life to the full.

The Deanery is a large and inclusive Church of England school with over 1,400 students aged 11–18, including approximately 200 students in our thriving Sixth Form. We have a culture of academic excellence and high expectations, firmly rooted in our Christian vision and values.

As an 11–18 school, we offer students the opportunity to progress through all three key stages on one site. This enables young people to learn in a familiar environment, supported by staff who know them well and are committed to helping every student achieve their full potential.

Our simple mantra – 'Work Hard, Be Kind, Make a Difference' – is at the heart of everything we do. It shapes our learning, our relationships and our commitment to developing confident, compassionate and ambitious young people.

Our recent 2026 Ofsted inspection recognised the distinctive strengths of The Deanery, praising the positive culture that exists throughout our school community. Inspectors highlighted that: "Pupils enjoy their time in school. They live by the school mantra to 'work hard, be kind, make a difference'. They link this seamlessly with the Christian values and ethos. Pupils play their part in ensuring school is a safe haven for everyone."

Inspectors also recognised the calm and purposeful learning environment that enables every student to succeed: "Pupils behave with maturity and a quiet confidence that they can be themselves at this school...classrooms are real havens of calm where pupils can give full focus to their learning."

The report celebrated the strong relationships that underpin our success, noting that teachers know their pupils exceptionally well, particularly disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Students value the care, guidance and support they receive, while inspectors also commented that staff are proud to be part of The Deanery team.

Education at The Deanery is about far more than examination results, important though they are. Inspired by the words of Jesus in John 10:10, our mission is to provide an education for life, enabling every member of our community to flourish and live life to the full.

We believe every young person has unique gifts and talents waiting to be discovered. Through a broad and ambitious curriculum, outstanding pastoral care and a wealth of co-curricular opportunities, we ensure that every student can find their niche, develop confidence and experience success.

Our examination results are consistently above the national average across GCSE, vocational and A Level qualifications. Students are supported by a highly skilled team of teachers, tutors and pastoral staff, with parents and carers closely involved throughout their child's journey.

Beyond the classroom, students benefit from an extensive programme of enrichment activities, leadership opportunities, educational visits, sport, music, drama and community service, helping them to develop into well-rounded, resilient and successful young adults.
