Sheffield United appear to have won the race to sign the USA left-back. West Brom and West Ham had also been linked with the 23-year-old, but it is understood a £2million bid from the Blades has been accepted by Latics’ administrators.

Robinson was set to join AC Milan for £10million in January before the move fell through at the last minute when his medical revealed a heart issue.

He returned to action in June as Latics climbed up the table - only for a 12-point deduction, for entering administration, to plunge them through the relegation trapdoor.

It has been reported elsewhere Robinson has a release clause in his contract of around £2m in the event Latics went down.

Latics manager Paul Cook has already departed following their relegation.

Youngster Alfie Devine has moved to Spurs, Jensen Weir to Brighton and Daniel Gyollai to Peterborough, while a host of other players have been linked with moves away.
