The promotion-chasing Bees were far too strong for a weary-looking Latics outfit, who appeared to be feeling the full effects of Wednesday's shock announcement that the club had gone into administration.

It is doubtful whether a fully focused Wigan team could have trumped Frank's men who are pushing for automatic promotion to the Premier League and were in fine form at Griffin Park.

But the Danish manager admitted he had sympathy for his crisis-stricken opponents, who face a real fight to avoid relegation from the Championship with a 12-point penalty hanging over their heads.

"I think we have to say credit to Wigan" he said. "It must have been a very difficult week for the club, the manager and the players.

"It's always a sad situation when a club goes into administration and I wish them all the best for the rest of the season."

The Bees boss was purring about his side's display which puts them within two points of third-placed West Bromwich Albion, who play Hull City at The Hawthorns on Sunday afternoon.

Frank had particular praise for Algerian international Said Benrahma, who scored a superb hat-trick and was at the forefront of the action for the majority of the afternoon.

"He's absolutely hit the ground running after this coronavirus break, but also added extra aspects to his game in terms of arriving into the box - that's an area we've been working a lot on," Frank said.

"I also need to praise him for his work ethic, I thought he worked extremely hard and that's always a demand I have for all my players in general and also the front three and they're doing a top job there.

"All in all I thought it was a very good performance. We knew we were coming up against a strong Wigan side but we have been doing fantastically.

"I think we are nine games unbeaten with seven cleans sheets and so we knew we had to be absolutely on it offensively and we were.

"We created a lot of chances and gave nothing away, so we were very pleased."
