Burn: We need to carry on momentum

Dan Burn says Latics' run of four points from their past two games has given them plenty of momentum, which he hopes they can carry into Saturday's clash with Burton.

The centre half admits the players could have taken a better approach into the start of their Championship campaign, and are suffering on the league ladder as a result.

But he hopes lessons learned can be quickly put into practice.

“We’re a good team, and we know we shouldn’t be where we are in the league,” said Burn.

“We’ve got big ambitions to go higher, but we were probably a little bit naive at the start of the season.

“There were a few games we probably could have sat back and taken a draw, but we went for it and ended up losing the game.

“Now we’re starting to realise the danger of that, and the importance of not getting punished.

“It’s totally changed from a few weeks ago when we couldn’t buy a win.

“Four points from the last two games gives us plenty of momentum, and hopefully we can pick up where we left off.”

Latics head into Saturday’s game knowing a win will push them further up the table, and Burn thinks a patient approach will be key to maintaining their upturn in form.

“We just need to learn how to not lose games,” he said.

“You’re not going to win every game, but you have to know how to pick up scrappy points here and there.”
