Pollitt joined Latics ahead of their maiden Premier League campaign, and his highlights include saving a Jose Antonio Reyes penalty in Wigan’s 2006 Carling Cup semi-final against Arsenal which helped send them through to the decider at Cardiff.

“I am absolutely gutted to be leaving the club after 11 years,” said Pollitt.

“There have been some fantastic memories that will stay with me forever.

“I would like to thanks the chairman, the staff and the players… but most of all, I would like to thank the fans for their continued support over the years, even if I am a Boltonian!!!

“Good luck for the future and I wish the club well.”
