Gerald Krasner of insolvency practitioner Begbies Traynor gave a stern ‘no comment’ when asked if the club was any closer to a buyer.

But he has promised to reveal more details into the extraordinary situation at a club that last week found itself in administration for seemingly no good reason.

“It’s right that the fans know what’s going on, as much as we can tell then, and it’s only right we do that,” Krasner told the Wigan Post.

“I’ve done at every club I’ve been involved at, try and give the fans and the press regular updates. I do have something to say, I don’t just hold press conferences for the sake of it.

“One thing I will say is we have had tremendous support so far from the Wigan fans, we’ve had some lovely messages from what I would call true football supporters.

“And I don’t want to keep them in the dark for any longer than is absolutely necessary.

“That said, there will be questions asked during the conference that I won’t be able to answer.

“This is like an iceberg where only 10 per cent of it is above the water.”

When pressed whether the update waould bepositive, he replied: “This is administration, nothing is positive.”

When asked whether there was cause for optimism, he added: “My levels of optimism are certainly no less since we took over last week.

“There’s always good news, bad news, indeterminate news on a daily basis. I’m also meeting (Wigan MP) Lisa Nandy straight after the conference.”

Krasner also addressed the issue of the 12-point deduction that would see Latics drop from lower mid-table to bottom of the Championship.

“We’ve got until Thursday to deal with it,” he said. “It will be dealt with.”
