Successful return for Wigan Athletic duo

Kyle Joseph and Chris Merrie each got 45 minutes under their belt in Wigan Athletic's Development Squad draw against Ipswich on Monday afternoon.

Joseph returned to the first-team bench at the weekend after almost three months out with a back injury, coming on as a stoppage-time substitute.

Merrie, meanwhile, had been out since mid-February with a hamstring problem.

Both came through unscathed, which will be more good news for Leam Richardson and the club's survival hopes.

Sean McGurk's last-minute penalty earned the U23s a point, after Sam Tickle's own goal had given the visitors the lead.

The Latics XI included five trialists, one of whom came close to scoring only to find the side-netting.

Frankie Bunn's side travel to Crewe on Wednesday (1pm).
