Why Ronan Darcy's departure won't mean another Wigan Athletic incoming - plus Scott Hogan latest
Gary Caldwell says Ronan Darcy's departure from Wigan Athletic this week won't directly lead to a new player coming into the club.
The 25-year-old midfielder parted company from the club just days after the transfer window closed, leading fans to hope it would lead to a free agent coming in to replace him in the squad.

However, Caldwell says the saving on wages had already been factored in, which led to Brad Burrowes' loan arrival from Aston Villa on deadline day.
"We knew it was happening, which allowed us to get Brad in," revealed Caldwell.
"It was done before the deadline, to allow us to bring in another, so that doesn't open up anything new. "However, that doesn't necessarily mean the squad won't be bolstered by another body.
"There is still a little bit of wiggle room, so we might try to do something with an out of contract player," said the Latics boss, who is understood to want to arrange another loan spell for young goalkeeper Tom Watson.
"But we have to abide by and follow the rules. If we can do something, then we will. If we can't, then we have to move on with what we've got."
Scott Hogan, who has been training with Latics for most of the summer, and played as a trialist in some pre-season friendlies, remains at the club.
"Scott's still here and doing well," added Caldwell. "I think he's just enjoying having his breakfast and lunch with us, to be honest!
"But no, he's been brilliant, he's trained extremely well. If we can do something there...we just have to wait to see if that can happen.
"If it does, I think that will happen by the weekend. If not, then I don't think it will happen."
The Scot also admitted his delight at seeing young forward Adam Moseley score on his debut for Southport in the week after joining on a 28-day loan.
"Yeah brilliant, that's why we sent him there, to score goals and to win games," he said. "They've had an indifferent start, so for him to score on his debut and them to win the game, that's fantastic.
"He's someone who's been with us all pre-season and he's trained very well. He had a little niggle with hi ankle midway through, but he shoed quality whenever he trained with us, and we thought he needed games.
"He's at a level I know he can score a lot of goals, and hopefully he'll come back here ready to put his name forward here, or go back out on loan at a higher level."
