Paul Kendrick runs the rule over the Wigan Athletic side that lost 1-0 at home to Derby County and delivers his report card...

Wigan Athletic (4-2-3-1):

Christian Walton: 7 - No chance with the goal but pulled off a couple of fine saves to keep Latics in the game.

Reece James: 8 - Showed his versatility by switching to right wing-back in the reshuffle and if anything showed up even better.

Cedric Kipre: 7 - Stood up strong and didn’t give the dangerous Derby forwards much to go on.

Dan Burn: 8 - Possibly his best game of the season, looking more like the imperious presence he’s been for most of his DW stint.

Kal Naismith: 4 - Horribly exposed for the incident that led to his 15th-minute dismissal, easy to say in hindsight he should have let Wilson shoot but paid a high price.

Sam Morsy: 8 - Literally took the fight to Derby, didn’t take a backward step and impressive in possession as well with Latics down to 10.

Lee Evans: 7 - Backed up the skipper in his usual manner, passing again impeccable, and if his second-half piledriver had been two yards to the right...

Nathan Byrne: 6 - Forced into an unfamiliar left wing-back role following the sending-off but one second-half cross in particular deserved a goal.

Josh Windass: 7 - Switched to lone frontman duties in the 30th-minute reshuffle following the red card, and ran his blood to water with little reward.

Gary Roberts: 5 - Hooked on the half-hour due to the sending-off, had looked in good nick up to that point.

James Vaughan: 5 - Ditto.
