The deal had been expected to be finalised earlier this month, but has now been completed less than 24 hours after the end of the Championship season.

The England youth international is the club's youngest ever first-team player, after turning out in November 2017 at the age of 15 years and 280 days in a Checkatrade Trophy match with Accrington Stanley.

Weir has made a further three appearances for Paul Cook’s side, with his last appearance coming in this season’s Carabao Cup clash with Stoke City at the DW Stadium.

Latics will receive a fee in the region of £500,00 for the England Under-18 international, plus add-ons.

The money ensured Latics staff received their June wages after the club was placed into administration at the beginning of this month.
