The feature race of the day is the £20,000 six-furlong handicap at 3.20pm. The contest has attracted a classy field of 10 runners that is headed by the top-weight Bielsa. Trained by Kevin Ryan, he looked a very exciting prospect last season when landing the Portland Handicap at Doncaster, but has struggled in two starts so far this year. He has subsequently undergone wind surgery as he bids to regain the winning thread.

Breath Of Air was beaten by a nose at Haydock on his last start and is enjoying a good season. This race back down in trip could really suit and he is respected for a trainer enjoying a 21% strike-rate in the last fortnight.

Angel Alexander won the Ayr Gold Cup last season, but has been unable to replicate that form yet this season. He was well-beaten in a Listed event at Chester last time out, but this does represent a drop in class for Tom Dascombe’s charge. Dazzling Dan looked to be returning to form when sixth at Ascot in August and his form last year included a defeat of subsequent July Cup hero Oxted at Newmarket.

Vintage Brut is another horse with smart form in his back catalogue, including a Listed win at Sandown in May, 2018. However, he is struggled to get involved at the business end of his races of late.

The £13,000 seven-furlong handicap (4.55pm) is another interesting contest in which Endowed is a fascinating contender. Set to be ridden by former Hong Kong champion apprentice Howard Cheng, he was a narrow second at Newmarket on his first start since wind surgery and is capable of further improvement.

Mundatab boasts plenty of excellent form and was successful at Epson on Derby Day earlier this year. He is back down to his last winning mark and has to enter calculations with top-jockey Silvestre De Sousa booked.

Others to mention include Molls Memory who comes into this race on the back of a solid win at Newbury last season. That came on heavy ground and conditions will therefore suit. Tranchee was a good second at a big price at Newbury last time out and is another to consider in a wide-open event.

Away from the two feature races, Teodolina should take plenty of beating in the £6,300 Novice Stakes at 4.25pm. She has run three fine races in defeat and this looks a good opportunity to record a first career win.
