Adrian Lam provides injury update on Jai Field

New signing Jai Field endured a luckless Wigan debut as he was forced off during last night's Super League victory against Leigh.

The Aussie - playing on the wing - hobbled off in the 19th minute after hyper-extending his leg, and didn't return.

Coach Adrian Lam said: "He's torn his hamstring, so up to six weeks out. Six weeks plus, depending on the severity.

"I am gutted for him because I asked him to play out on the wing there, and he accepted that to get his debut.

"It was an opportunity for him to pick up the ball and show his speed but unfortunately, he tore his hamstring."

Without him, Wigan fought back from 18-0 down against the newcomers to score two tries before the break, and a double afterwards to claim an opening day 20-18 victory.

Field's injury compounds Lam's problems in the backs, given his first-choice wingers Liam Marshall and Dom Manfredi - as well as centre Oliver Gildart - are out injured.

Meanwhile, No.1 Bevan French yesterday set off on his way back from Australia after being given more time off to spend with his family.
