The forward limped off in the first-half of last Tuesday's 42-0 loss to St Helens.

It was suspected he had suffered an MCL injury but Adrian Lam said scans confirmed he also dislocated his kneecap.

The injuries will rule him out for three months and - with Wells out of contract at Wigan - it appears he has played his last game for the club.

The RFL's match review panel will view footage of the tackle tomorrow (Monday) before deciding whether to charge Saints prop Alex Walmsley for the challenge.

If they do, the extent of his injury may prove bad news for Walmsley. An RFL spokesman confirmed the severity of an injury can be an "aggravating factor" when the operational rules tribunal decide on suspensions.

The disciplinary department has been clamping down on tackles around the knees - Morgan Smithies, Ben Flower and Ollie Partington are among those who have been banned for challenges this year.

Lam said: "It's bad news for Jack, he's dislocated his kneecap and torn his MCL in the tackle from last week's game. He's going to be out for up to three months."

Asked if he expected disciplinary action, he said: "I imagine they'll have a look at, I'm not too sure, but we'll be without him and it's a blow to him and us."

Academy-product Wells, cruelly, was playing only his second game for Wigan in three years after an injury-plagued spell.
