Outside pressure won't affect Wane

SHAUN Wane insists he is not feeling any outside pressure to end Wigan's trophy-drought as they prepare to launch their 2016 campaign.

The Warriors have reached the last two Grand Finals but just fallen short on both occasions.

They also went within a whisker of claiming the League Leaders’ Shield last season.

Owner and chairman Ian Lenagan has made no secret of his desire to win a trophy every other year.

And with just days until the start of the new season, Wane said: “I don’t feel any outside pressure, if I’m perfectly honest.

“I put a huge amount of pressure on myself because I’m in this job to win things.”

Less harsh judges may count 2015 as a qualified success, but Wane is determined to land a piece of silverware after two lean years.

“If I didn’t think they were capable of winning a competition, it wouldn’t bother me, not winning a trophy,” continued Wane.

“But when I know what they are capable of and we don’t win anything, it annoys me.

“I know what this team is capable of.”

Wane guided Wigan to the league leaders’ shield in his first year in charge, in 2012, and backed that up with a stunning Challenge Cup and Grand Final double the following year.

The Warriors open their new campaign at home to Catalans Dragons this Friday.
