Bevan French would be welcomed back at Parramatta.

That’s the view of captain Clint Guthbertson amid reports the livewire is returning to the Eels in 2021.

French only joined Wigan last year after falling down the pecking order at the NRL outfit. But following a string of impressive displays in Super League, he has been widely linked with a return to his old club to play full-back.

Guthbertson currently occupies that position and was named the No.1 of the year at the 2020 Dally M awards, though he can also play at centre. “

If Bevvy comes back it’ll be great for the club and we’d love to have him,” said Guthbertson at the event.

“I haven’t spoken to anyone from the club. I’d love to keep playing full-back and we’ll see what happens and what the club have in mind.”

Wigan, who have tabled a new contract to French, have already recruited his former Eels team-mate Jai Field for 2021. Though the move hasn’t been officially announced, the player has confirmed the switch on a two-year deal.

Field can play full-back or half-back and he may be lined up for a role in the latter, given Jackson Hastings is expected to go and uncertainty whether Thomas Leuluai will play on next season.
