Liam Byrne is set to miss the remainder of the Rugby League World Cup after being handed two match penalty notice.

The prop was sent to the sin bin in Ireland’s 32-14 defeat to Lebanon at Leigh Sports Village.

Following the game, the Match Review Panel sanctioned the Wigan Warriors man for two separate incidents.

Byrne will now be suspended for two games, after being charged with two separate Grade A Dangerous Contact offences.

He also received a further caution for other contrary behaviour.

Ireland now have until 11am on October 25 to challenge the decision.
