Wigan Warriors academy product Matty Russell finds new club for 2025

The Scotland international, who made his professional debut in cherry and white back in 2011 at full-back against Widnes Vikings, will make the switch from Warrington Wolves, with Wakefield hoping to return to Super League next season under IMG.

Hide AdRussell has played just once under Sam Burgess this year, with loan moves to Hull FC and Leeds Rhinos across the 2024 campaign.
He has enjoyed more than 200 career appearances across spells in England, France and Canada, as well as spending a year in Australia with Gold Coast Titans.
The 31-year-old will reunite with head coach Daryl Powell at Belle Vue, having worked together at Warrington.

Hide AdOn joining Trinity, Russell said: “I am delighted to have signed with Wakefield, it’s an amazing opportunity for me to get back playing my best rugby.
"I’ve had a few months now to get my body back to where it should be after a troubled season.
“The club have performed extremely well this year in the Championship and continue to show massive ambition with their signings for 2025.

Meanwhile, Trinity have confirmed that nine players will depart the club at the end of the year, including Wigan Grand Final and Challenge Cup winner, Iain Thornley.
