Wigan Warriors announce coaching departure with Catalans Dragons switch confirmed in 'fantastic opportunity'

The 37-year-old returned to the Brick Community Stadium outfit ahead of the 2024 campaign after spending two years in the Fire Service.

Hide AdHe was appointed as head coach of the club’s scholarship and assisted with the academy, recently helping Wigan to be crowned Academy champions following their Grand Final win over rivals St Helens at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
The two-time Super League winner has been appointed as Catalans Dragons’ new defence coach, reuniting with brother and full-back Sam in the South of France ahead of next season.
Catalans have also confirmed the addition of Ryan Sheridan to Steve McNamara’s coaching staff, with assistant Andy Last having left at the conclusion of the season to return to Hull FC and work under John Cartwright at the MKM Stadium.

Hide AdTomkins spent two seasons in Perpignan before retiring, while he made more than 200 appearances for the Cherry and Whites.
On his move, he said: “A year ago, I was working for Greater Manchester Fire Service, and I want to thank Matty and Kris for bringing me back into the world of rugby league. Their belief and support has reignited my passion for the sport and inspired me to pursue a coaching career.
“During my time working with the youth system at Wigan Warriors, I’ve built some strong connections, and I look forward to crossing paths with many of the talented players I’ve had the privilege to work with in the future.
