You ain't seen nothing yet, reckons Wigan winger Davies

Wigan have won three of their four Super League games and sit third in the embryonic table.

And while many would reflect on a solid start to the campaign, winger Davies says they are not yet the finished article.

He points to the adjustments the players have made in the off-season, adapting to a revamped attack, as a reason why they will continue to improve.

The 21-year-old said: “I definitely think there’s another gear.

“We did a lot of reviews in the off-season to find ways to revitalise the way we play. Waney wants us to throw the ball around more and we are all buying into the changes.

“But at the minute, everyone is still getting used to it. Some of the players have different roles – Sam Powell and Sam Tomkins, for example, are both defending in the halfback position for part of the game – and others are getting used to different things.

“We’re not quite there yet, we know that, but we’ll keep inching away. And I think as long as we keep working at it, we’ll keep getting better and better.”

Wigan host Wakefield on Sunday hoping to keep the heat on early leaders St Helens.

Chris Chester’s Trinity are above the Warriors after a perfect start to their campaign.

“You get what you always get with them,” continued Davies. “They have strong forwards and skilful backs – our middles have to dominate theirs, and then it’s up to us to close down their spread plays.

“Tom Johnstone has started the season well after coming back from injury and Bill Tupou is there as well – if you give then an inch they’ll take a mile.”

Referee Chris Kendall will take charge of Sunday’s non-televised game (3pm kick-off).
