Daisy Dukes Drive-In Cinema is coming to the DW Stadium at the beginning of May with a programme of classic flicks to screen over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Events where punters are able to enjoy their favourite movies without leaving their cars have enjoyed a boost in popularity in the past 12 months while indoor cinemas have been shut under the Covid-19 restrictions.

And the Daisy Dukes team says there is a huge appetite to enjoy classic cinema on the big screen in Wigan as it is bringing a packed programme for its three days at the stadium.

Operations manager Kane Ayton says: “Since we announced our debut event in Wigan the response has been unprecedented.

“We’re so excited to be at DW Stadium as one of the first events as restrictions ease.

“We will be screening on one of the worlds largest 100sqm LED screens in Wigan. Ticket holders are in for such a treat.

“Due to popular demand we are screening a special Fright Night experience, alongside a screening of Stephen King’s 2017 horror IT, to unleash a terrifying experience onto the grounds at the DW.

“Some of the most popular films are down to the last 30 tickets.”

Mr Ayton says the promotion company has worked closely with the town hall to make sure the regulations for dealing with the novel coronavirus are not breached and transmission risk is minimised.

The line-up kicks off on Saturday, May 1 with screenings of Wonder Woman and 1984 before a singalong to classic musical Grease and the terrifying It to end the day.
