Wigan band Boomin release new single

The group's latest rocking song Liar Liar is a broadside against artificiality and the state of the modern world.

The three-piece originally started penning the track a couple of years ago but decided that the turbulent and tumultuous year of 2020 was the ideal time to complete it and get it released.

The band, made up of brothers Edd and Adam Langmead and Rory O’Grady, also overcame the considerable hurdles the coronavirus pandemic has put in the way of musicians to record the song and put together an accompanying video too.

Bassist Rory said: “We’ve had this song hanging around for a while but never finished it. We just felt that with the way the world is at the moment it was time to release it.

“It was basically written about not trusting people in general but it could be interpreted about the way the Government is, with ministers going on TV and never giving a straight answer.

“We’ve done a video for it which is all about the fake world of dating apps, with airbrushing on photos and all these poses people do. They’re lies, basically.

“There’s a line in the song about us being the three little pigs and you being the big bad wolf, so there’s that little fictional story in there too.

“It’s available for streaming as a single because we just wanted to get something out to the fans.”

Liar Liar was recorded at guitarist Adam’s own studio, with the band heading round during the period when restrictions were relaxed in summer to finish getting the song on disc.

The video too was a DIY affair, with the band having to use their phones and applying filters to get the footage they needed.

The pandemic has had a massive impact on Boomin, with a full season of gigs cancelled.

However, the group did made an appearance on Saturday at the virtual Christmas lights switch-on event for Preston.

However, Rory said the band has been determined to spend their time as productively as they can this year.

He said: “We were wiped out for live gigs really. We’ve done what other acts have done, putting on some Facebook gigs, doing videos and rewarding fans who’ve helped us.

“It’s been about keeping ticking over, basically. It really opens your eyes and makes you think what we have had to do. It stops you taking things for granted.

“It makes you work a bit harder, push yourself to get things recorded and keep doing stuff.”
