The event for Years 10 and 11 at St Edmund Arrowsmith High in Ashton brought together a wide range of local businesses, colleges, apprenticeship providers and organisations, giving pupils the chance to speak directly to professionals and learn more about different careers and pathways beyond school.

Among those attending were Wigan Council, Wigan Athletic, Sellafield Ltd, BAE Systems and representatives from the Armed Forces, alongside a host of other employers and education and training providers.

Students embraced the opportunity to find out more about potential careers, further education, apprenticeships and employment. They engaged confidently with exhibitors, asking questions and gaining a better understanding of the skills and qualifications needed to pursue different career paths.

A particular highlight was welcoming former St Edmund Arrowsmith pupils back to the school, now working in professional roles. They shared their experiences and career journeys with current students, providing an inspiring example of where determination, hard work and ambition can lead after leaving school.

Mrs Paul, head of personal development curriculum, said: “It was wonderful to see our Year 10 and 11 pupils so engaged, asking thoughtful questions and showing real enthusiasm about the opportunities available to them.

“Our Careers Fair gives students the chance to meet employers, colleges and apprenticeship providers, explore different pathways and start thinking positively about their future.

“It was also fantastic to welcome former pupils back to school in their new roles and see them inspiring our current students. “
