From the building site to pulling on the England shirt against Scotland for Standish native!
Standish native Martin Fisher will be flying the flag for England this weekend in a Masters rugby league international
Standish native Martin Fisher has been selected to represent England in a Masters rugby league international against Scotland this weekend.

Fisher - a forklift truck driver with Bellway for more than 10 years - has been nominated by his club, Warrington Rebel Masters, and will proudly wear the iconic England jersey for the first time in the match in Edinburgh on Saturday, October 31.
Fisher - who is currently working on phase three of Bellway’s Barton Quarter development in Horwich - has been passionate about rugby from an early age, picking up a ball when he was first toddling around and starting to play at the age of six.
A passion for rugby runs in the family for Fisher - his uncle played for Wigan and was instrumental in encouraging him to take up the sport, sparking a love for the game that has remained a constant throughout his life.
Today, Fisher continues to be heavily involved, playing for Warrington Rebel Masters and coaching at North Wales Crusaders. His son also plays for North Wales, ensuring the family’s love of rugby continues into the next generation.
Fisher’s selection for England’s Masters team is a proud milestone in a lifelong sporting journey, recognising his ongoing commitment to the game alongside his long career at Bellway.
“Rugby has always been a huge part of my life ever since I started playing as a young boy, and I’m delighted to have been chosen to represent England,” said Fisher.
“It will be an honour and a privilege, and I’m really excited to step out onto the pitch and give my best.”
Regional managing director for Bellway, Mathew McAdam, added: “We are incredibly proud of Martin and his achievement in being selected to represent England.
“We are looking forward to seeing him play and will be fully supporting him and the team in the match against Scotland.”
