It follows a particularly successful year for QUEST’s primary schools, with pupils achieving strong academic results across every stage of their education.

In end-of-primary SATs, 82 per cent of year six pupils across the four schools achieved the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, 19 percentage points above the national average.

This represents a 31 percentage point increase across the trust over the past three years.

There were also strong results across the primary phase, including 77 per cent of children achieving a good level of development in reception and above-national outcomes in phonics and the year four multiplication tables check.

Each school also celebrated its own successes.

St Peter’s achieved 95 per cent in year two phonics, while St John’s Abram recorded 70 per cent in the year four multiplication tables check.

St John’s Hindley Green achieved particularly strong reading results in year six, including 62 per cent of pupils reaching greater depth in reading, while Hindley Green Community Primary achieved 86 per cent in the combined year six expected standard for reading, writing and maths.

Marc Doyle, CEO of QUEST Trust, said: “The start of a new school year is always a special time, and it has been fantastic to see our pupils returning with such enthusiasm and looking so smart in their new uniforms.

“We are incredibly proud of everything our pupils and staff achieved last year, and the strong academic results across our four Wigan primary schools give us a great platform to build on. Just as importantly, we want every child to enjoy coming to school, feel proud of where they belong and have the opportunity to achieve their very best.

“We wish all of our pupils, families and staff a happy and successful new school year.”
