Wigan's phone theft risk revealed in new national ranking after more than 100 offences in 12 months
Analysis shows how many phone thefts have been recorded in towns and cities around the country.

It was 151st in a ranking by Wolfstone Digital, after 105 theft-from-the-person offences in the year ending June 2026.
This equals 3.04 offences per 10,000 residents, lower than Manchester (39.02), Bolton (4.87) and Salford (6.66).
However, Wigan was slightly higher than Warrington (2.97) and Chorley (2.57).
Top of the table was London (76.77), followed by Manchester and then Cambridge (21.89).
Adam Woodhead, tech expert at Wolfstone Digital, said: “Having a phone stolen can expose much more than the device itself. An unlocked handset may provide access to emails, payment cards, photographs, passwords and authentication codes.
“Residents should enable device tracking, use a strong screen lock and prevent sensitive notifications from appearing while the phone is locked. If a device disappears, it should be marked as lost immediately and removed from mobile payment services.”
