Power tool firm Makita has confirmed it will be shutting its site in Wigan
An international firm manufacturing power tools has confirmed it plans to close its site in Wigan.
Makita has a factory service centre and training academy at Martland Park, which delivers technical repairs and maintenance services for its products.
The Wigan Observer was told by a source in early October that it was set to close – but the firm denied it at the time.
However, it has now confirmed the site will shut by the end of next year, but did not say how many jobs would be affected.

A spokesman for Makita said: “We confirm the planned closure of our factory services centre on Martland Park, Wigan, by the end of 2026. We are currently in the process of finding alternative premises for our training and service support for customers in the north of England.
"Warehousing will be handled via our head office (Milton Keynes) facility or alternative business solutions.
"We aim to retain as many Makita staff as possible.”
