He now has his sights set firmly on a career playing football at the highest level, after securing his first professional contract with Preston North End.

Budding football star Holly Buttress was extremely nervous before results day, but has achieved 11 GCSEs, seven of which were grade eights.

Holly, who led her Wigan Athletic ladies’ team to a league win last season, has been selected as a Barclays game changer ambassador, which will see her as a role model and promoting women’s football.

She said: “I didn’t expect to do this well to be honest. I’m most proud of my maths because of how much work I had to put in, but also my grade eight in PE too.”

Staff and pupils were also really proud of their GCSE achievements at Bedford High School.

A spokesman for the school said: “We are so pleased to be able to celebrate with our year 11 students today as they received their well-deserved GCSE grades.

“We wish all our students the very best in their next steps of education, safe in the knowledge that they have developed the character and skills needed to excel in wherever their journey takes them.”
