In a social media post, organisers Jo and Oli said: “It is with very heavy hearts that we have to announce the cancellation of the first Wigan Independent Craft Beer Expo.

"We were told two weeks ago that the venue has uncovered unforeseen issues which will likely result in the event not being able to run.

"We’ve spent the time since the devastating news looking for a new venue; we searched high and low, but couldn’t find a suitable venue that would do justice to the event, the brewers and to you, the guests.

“We’d like to take a moment to thank the brewers for putting in so much enthusiasm and work to support the event; we appreciate that coming to a new festival is a risk on your behalf and we’re so happy that you put your faith in us.

"We’ll keep drinking your beer and telling everybody we know about your brilliant brews.

“We’d also like to thank all the paying guests who supported our venture, without you this event wouldn’t have even got this far.

"Please keep supporting local beer by visiting the amazing brewers at their tap rooms and drinking in some of the amazing pubs and bars across the Wigan borough.

"Refunds will be getting issued over the next week or so and should be back in your account within 14 days.

This is not goodbye, merely farewell.

"We truly are devastated about the outcome of the event, we spent six months of late nights and long days trying to get this to become a reality but sometimes things just don’t work out.

"We’re already planning how we can come back even stronger in the future.

"We learned a lot, we’ll keep learning, and we will be putting on beer events for you lovely people to explore the wonderful world of brewing and experience some of the best the country has to offer.”
