What is good sleep hygiene? And how can you improve it?
If you have a hard time falling asleep, experience regular sleep disturbances and feel sleepy in the daytime, you probably suffer from poor sleep hygiene; bad quantity and quality of sleep can also be a symptom.
According to the Sleep Foundation, good sleep hygiene involves having a bedroom environment and daily routines “that promote consistent, uninterrupted sleep”.
Here are some tips to adjust your sleep habits to drift off – and stay asleep – more easily.
Keep a stable sleep schedule
Try to wake up at the same time every day, even on the weekend, to set a consistent rhythm
Avoid disruptions
Set a cool, comfortable temperature, block out light and drown out noise where you can
Establish a relaxing pre-bed routine
Allow 30 minutes to wind down every evening: keep the lights low and unplug from electronic devices to avoid mental stimulation
Make healthy habits during the day
Taking regular exercise can make it easier to sleep at night; other advice from the Sleep Foundation includes cutting down on the caffeine in the afternoon and evening, reducing alcohol consumption and not eating too late at night
Invest in your bedding
Your sheets and covers are the first things you touch when you get into bed, so it’s a good idea to make sure they feel amazing.
Panda London’s 100 percent bamboo bedding needs to be slept in to be believed: it’s supersoft for a luxurious bedtime experience.
Bamboo fabric offers a smooth and soothing material that is naturally easy on your body. It has an in-built antimicrobial enzyme that naturally repels the harmful bacteria known to irritate sensitive skin and cause unpleasant odours.
Plus bamboo's temperature-regulating properties mean you stay snug and cosy in winter but it's as cool as can be when the temperature rises, as well as ultra-breathable for an incredible sleep.
Why choose bamboo?
Bamboo products can be washed at low temperatures and dry rapidly without the need for fabric softeners or ironing, making them a low-energy option too.
Bamboo is the world’s fastest-growing plant - growing up to three feet a day - but only needs a third as much water as cotton, plus it releases 30 per cent more oxygen than hardwood trees.
All Panda London’s products are made from certified organic bamboo grown and produced without any harmful chemicals – meeting industry standards that ensure there are no harmful substances left in the fabric at the end of the manufacturing process.
In fact, Panda London is working hard to reduce the environmental impact at every stage of their products’ life cycles , from forest to your front door. So far, they have protected more than 567,930 trees, removing almost 205,000 tonnes of CO₂ from the atmosphere – equivalent to taking 123,654 cars off the road. Learn more by clicking here.
