A Leigh man is behind bars after admitting affray and possessing an offensive weapon - a baseball bat - in public.

Phillip McDermott, 45, of Maple Crescent, was jailed for 12 months during a hearing at Bolton Crown Court.

He was due to stand trial on a number of other charges, but the judge instead ordered that they would lie on file.

They were engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour in a relationship, intentional strangulation, wounding with intent and inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.
