Trial for a Wigan man accused of stalking is axed when he pleads guilty to harassment

A trial was due to begin at Bolton Crown Court.

A Wigan man due to stand trial over claims he stalked a woman has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.

Jamie Riley, 34, of Anderton Street, Ince, had been charged with stalking causing serious alarm and/or distress.

It was alleged that between April 20 and December 8 last year he repeatedly rang and texted a woman, repeatedly turned up at her home, monitored her movements, made threats to kill her and generally threatened her and made threats towards her friends.

But on the day a trial was due to begin at Bolton Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to a charge of harassment without violence.

Riley was remanded on conditional bail and will be sentenced at the same court on December 15.
