A free play area has opened at Leigh’s Spinning Gate shopping centre, similar to the picnic and play area held in summer which attracted more than 220,000 shoppers in four weeks.

The mall is decorated with pumpkin garlands and the orange and black-themed play area has picket fencing, artificial grass surrounded by black play mats, a ball pool, a tent and pop-up tunnel, bat-and-ball games, colouring fun and pumpkins.

It is hoped it will prove to be another big attraction for families looking for something to do.

Centre manager Karen Cox said: “Our summer picnic and play area was hugely popular and successful, with families enjoying it daily. Some families asked us to leave it on the mall permanently as they enjoyed it so much, so we just had to bring it back for October half-term.

"In the current climate, with the current cost-of-living crisis and rising living costs having a huge impact on our community, it is vital for Spinning Gate shopping centre to provide free fun during the school holidays.

"We can’t wait to watch little ones enjoy our spooky play area, making new friends and new memories. Join us this half-term for lots more free family fun.”

The play area is open daily until Sunday, October 29, from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times and games must be left in the play area for others to use.
